Um, ok so I'm getting kinda confused over what we really have to know about orgo for the mcat. I just found this on the Gold Standard website (just browsing) and it said that "The new MCAT CBT no longer requires specific knowledge of Alkenes (including Elimination Reactions), Ethers, nor Aromatic Chemistry (Benzene, Phenols)." so we don't have to know elimination reactions??? what are some topics that often shown up on mcat orgo?

have you checked out the aamc pdf file for the exam? It defines the subjects that can be included:

http://www.aamc.org/students/mcat/preparing/bstopics.pdf

so for ketones you would need to know for instance:

B. Aldehydes and Ketones

1. Description

a. nomenclature

b. physical properties

2. Important reactions

a. nucleophilic addition reactions at C=O bond

i. acetal, hemiacetal

ii. imine, enamine

b. reactions at adjacent positions

i. haloform reactions

ii. aldol condensation

iii. oxidation

c. 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds, internal hydrogen bonding

d. keto–enol tautomerism

e. organometallic reagents

f. Wolff–Kishner reaction

g. Grignard reagents

3. General principles

a. effect of substituents on reactivity of C=O; steric hindrance

b. acidity of α hydrogens; carbanions

c. α,−unsaturated carbonyl compounds, their resonance structures

There will be organic chemistry on the Bio section and you should have good knowledge of the material but not too specific, otherwise you will get lost.

Alkenes are not required.

just to add to that it doesn't seem to be in the list of required knowledge as per the aamc site :)
