ydogyy1
What are your thoughts on probiotics (yogurt, kim chi, yakult, sauerkraut...) - do they actually confer a beneficial protective effect against pathogenic diseases and such? I read that in most cases, the putatively beneficial bacteria are not in high enough doses to actually be able to survive the acidity of our stomach and make it into our GI tract to be actually effective in helping us against inflammatory bowel diseases. What do you guys think?
alanine
Not useful as a protective measure for healthy patients, but it is currently used as a side treatment for patients with Cdiff for instance.
Triathlete90
Just a big gimmick for the normal healthy person, as the person above has mentioned.
Alex2
Lack of proof and the fact that bacterias can be deleted because of stomach acid makes it not very good. You would have to take special yogurt or other things which have bacterias who can't be deleted by acids. Also, when research is done, it use one kind of bacteria. If a research says probiotics are good (and some very small or cheap research says so), you would have to take the exact name of the bacteria at the same concentration, which yogurt and many brands of other things don't do.
