wishinhopin
Hi everyone, I'm just wondering if it is possible for someone to transfer from a GP-A residency spot into an FRCPC spot, or if you can stay in the program afterwords, or anything like that. It seems like funding would be an issue if it is even a possibility. Thanks
UBCmed09
I'm pretty sure that this has been done in the UBC program with a number of GPAs having transferred to the 5y program in the past. Not sure about the funding intricacies but for those who showed sufficient aptitude and interest I think it can be worked out. UBCmed09
TimmyMax
Hey, It is definitely possible- this past year at UWO we had a GP who was in for an extra year of anaesthesia training who was so impressive that she was asked to join the 5-year FRCP training program. Ultimately, she decided that 2 or 3 more years of residency was too much and elected against joining the 5-year program, but it just illustrates that it can definitely be done if you demonstrate interest and aptitude in the area.
