Yes..another "Recommend me some schools" Thread

Recommended Posts

cGPA: 3.77 (UofT, my third year was terrible)

latest MCAT: 11VR, 12PS, 13BS, R

ECs: the usual..research, clinical volunteering, Wushu (martial arts) training and coaching, tutoring, etc.

I have been taking a look at MSAR and the other "what are my chances?" threads out there, but I'd still like to get some advice from the experts out there :P

Thanks!

36 makes you competitive at all the Ivy Leagues!

If I had your stats I would go for all the reach schools I could afford and then some:

Columbia, Case Western, Mayo, Dartmouth, Harvard, Yale, Washington U just to give you some ideas... where ever you want to live doing whatever you want to do! Pick schools you are really passionate about, ones that would make you really have to think twice if you end up with the beautiful choice of canada vs. that school.

You have great stats. GPA will hurt you though..no brainer... You should be thinking about a Cdn med school unless you have U.S. citizenship/residency status and you want to work in the states. More debt and it can be a hassle when applying to U.S. residencies without any U.S. citizneship.

I know that in 2007, all LCME graduates (U.S./Canadian graduates) were on par/equivalent when applying via CARMs match.

But here is my recommendation I posted this on another discussion...here it is again..

I highly recommend Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (CMS)

I'm doing a multi-degree program (M.Sc. / M.H.A. / M.D.) which takes five years to complete and no summers. I completed my M.Sc. and half of 1st year meds, I'll be completing the other half of 1st + my M.H.A. next year.

Traditional curriculum + systems approach but exams every 2 weeks for your courses - this means less cramming.

Awesome Match LIst / above avg board scores. The school gets a bad rap because its in a sub-urb (North Chicago, 1 hour from Chicago).

Canadian friendly - Cdn profs, Cdn students, Cdn collaborations. Tuition is much chepaer than Wayne State, better match list / higher avg board scores. Why is everyone infautated with Wayne State in this forum??

Disadvantage to Cdns applying to U.S. Med Schools - I have a green card and 4 years away from dual citizneship, but from what I hear non-U.S. / non-green carders can't work for money, can't leave for more than 2 months, visas are annoying, and your residences will be limited in all U.S. M.D. school.
