fluztom18
Would graduating from a U.S. institution with an advanced degree (M.D., PhD, J.D., etc) make you eligible for the green card? I heard this on the news a couple months ago, but can't seem to find this information on the USCIS (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) website. Any input would be appreciated
moo
Nope, not unless you married an American. You can, however, extend your F1 student visa for one year, allowing you to get your paper work in order to apply for the H1b visa (if your program sponsors it, and that's a big if). Once you get the H1b visa, it can be anywhere from a few years to many years before you can get PR (green card). This process, of course, can be a lot quicker if you married a US citizen.
