You could send a thank you card if you liked, but NOT anything of any value e.g. no gift certificates / coffee cards. It may be an overreaction, but I wouldn't want even the slightest hint of impropriety to touch on my references / referees. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Lactic Folly Posted November 12, 2011 Report Share Posted November 12, 2011 I think a written thank you card is nice as it gives them something to display/read again in the future if they choose. But the important thing is to follow up and thank them, card or no card. I would shy away from a gift card. However, if you know the person reasonably well, I don't think a gift tailored to their interests (special coffee beans if they are a coffee lover) would be inappropriate if given after the letter is submitted.
