what is the BEST Qbank to study for MCCEE ?

Recommended Posts

...good question,

answering to this, I should mention that, as all you know, the test for MCC exams are prepared based on the Objectives, so one couldn't recommend using USMLEworld for canadian exams, and I will explain why,

- in preparing for my EE last year I found the same opinion about EE-USMLE correlation, so I started by revising Pretest USMLE step II and Kaplan Step II, but when I started to study Pediatrics, and comparing them with the info from TorontoNotes, I noticed that info from kaplan was more basic knowledge oriented, whereas torontoNotes asks you to know the general approach, depending on the patient's presentation. Canadian tests doesn't care if you know all the components of VACTERL syndrome, as USMLE does ; they just ask you what would you check anything else in a newborn with diagnosed tracheoesophageal fistula... ;)

I have no idea what another qbanks represent, I didn't try them all:

- USMLEworld might be the same as pretest and kaplan books are, I think..., and I found a lot of detailed info in the latter, which wasn't actually required on my EE exam,

- also , I found like 3 to 5 % questions that were common to both Pretests for usmle, autoevaluation test on MCC official site , canadaQbank (which I used) and official EE exam.

My general impression is that canadaqbank is closer to the type of EE questions, NOT the same , BUT the same type of questions...

good luck in your prep

good point :)

Sure "sucks"-word could be an argument...for you at least,

but if you disagree with me, take please more time to explain why ;),

and if you have another option, other than usmleworld, I would be glad to hear it, since I'm going to start my prep for QE1...

I said why usmle materials are not the perfect source of prep for Canadian exams, they would cover some 60%(roughly said) of what you are supposed to know for them.

found a very informative thread in this link http://forums.studentdoctor.net/archive/index.php/t-121773.html

One guy said Shah was a must-read. One guy said to avoid it. wtf.

Ya, I have read it , good advices ...;) still everyone should adapt his/her way of study to his/her best manner of learning

...about Shah, it is certainly usefull, but not all chapters, I mean, anyway the Public Health section, from Toronto Notes, is based mostly on the material found in Shah and CanMED objectives, but remains as summaries of the original information.

Partially related to this topic...

Visitors to this thread may find a post I wrote right after writing the MCC exam part I interesting.

See: http://www.premed101.com/forums/showpost.php?p=705679&postcount=15

I talk about how I studied, how I found the exam itself etc. In the end the way that I studied for this exam worked well. But heads up, this is not a feel good exam. I think few people leave this exam feeling like they nailed it. But in the the end it works out for almost everyone who attends a Canadian med school. Virtually all CMGs pass. :)

I think its a good idea to post here my experience so far with Canadaqbank.

The questions are not really bad, but the explanations are horrible, and often times the explanations are taken literally from public web sites from pages directed to patients, not medical literature. For example Mayo clinic sites for patients, or the Merck manual Home health (Family edition). I have sent suggestions several times but they never answer my reports or suggestion.

all marketing , absolutely no delivery, most of the people who take these courses failed. When they figure out that the courses are not good  unfortunately there is no refund as they already signed the contract so the IMGs remain trapped with a very poor course and can not match
