e_is_hv
Hi all As carms approaches I am just wondering if anyone has any idea how difficult it is to switch schools (maintain same program) at the end of PGY1? I'm talking about for internal medicine (ie a larger program). I've seen two residents who did it before but have no idea how hard it is. I ask for personal locating reasons with my spouse. Thanks all!
justletmein
I think you would have to have a pretty good reason to do so. (i.e. family/children in another province/city)
japlanet
If this is a foreseeable switch after PGY-1 then why not bite the bullet for that one year and rank highly the spot to which you would want a transfer? I have heard of inter-school transfers but as mentioned, in the context of significant (and relatively unforseeable) family concerns. Ex. I heard of it for a women whose husband was being deployed and she transferred to be in the same city as her in-laws so that they could help with the kids.
