Guest ML
Are there lots of people with arts degrees in med school? Generally, are GPAs in arts higher than that is sciences?
Guest Ian Wong
Not lots, but there are some in every class. GPA-wise it's hard to tell because we don't usually discuss those things any more. At UBC, there's a number of science pre-reqs, all the way up to a full year of third year Biochem, so the Arts people have to be able to excell in those pre-req courses without the aid of as much previous background as all the science majors. Pretty much this means you have to be a smart cookie to get into med, whether that be from science or arts. The trick is to find something you want to study (that may or may not give you a backup job), and then do really well at it.
