UBC Prereq dilemma

Hello

I am a UVic student planning to major in chemistry but the Chemistry program requires me to take BIOC 299+360/361.

 

For Biochemistry pre-req from UVic, UBC website says "BIOC 300a & 300b (preferred)orBIOC 299 (or BIOC 200) and one of either BIOL 360 or 361Prior to Sept 2005: BIOC 300"

 

what is"preferred" supposed to mean?

 

Bio program is beautifully crafted to satisfy UBC med requirement. Should I take Bio or Chem (both are interesting )?
