What are my chances?

Recommended Posts

  • 3 weeks later...

I called Ottawa a few weeks ago about the WGPA cutoffs and they're different depending on which "group" you fall into.

I specifically asked what the cutoff was for the "Residents of Ontario - Anglophone program" and they said it was 3.85-4.00 so it really depends on what group you fall into based on who you are and where you're from.

I didn't want to make another thread, but what are my chances?

In Ontario, out of Ottawa

wGPA: 3.96

ECs:

- 1.5 years in research (no publications/conferences though.)

- 1 year volunteering in hospital (working closely with patients, performing therapeutic activity etc.)

- Prospective volunteer training for hospital.

- 3 years of community involvement in youth movement in high school.

- Volunteering abroad for one summer (not medicine related, but hopefully relevant.)

- 1 semester of being a reporter for school paper.

- No major awards/scholarships (unfortunately.)

- Other minor jobs for the summer (lifeguarding, tutoring, retail, etc.)

I know my ECs aren't great, but what do you guys think? Can anyone from Ottawa comment?

With a nice ABS, you certainly have a chance of getting an interview.

Both actually :)

Somebody got accepted last cycle with ~3.846, but they rounded that up to 3.85 which met the cutoff. They got an interview and ultimately an acceptance.

I know it was cleared in the other thread but might as well say it here as well. That individual is in the class of 2014, so he applied all the way back in 2009. Whether the landscape has changed or not who knows. I sure hope note, I'm riding my 3.8533 for all its worth! :D

Yeah, I guess it's a good idea to correct my mistake on this thread as well :)

Your 3.8533 is perfectly fine though, since you're above the cutoff
