Worth Applying for OOP?

Recommended Posts

Only now did I take a good look at NOSM's class profiles from the past few years and notice that:

-In 2012: 64 students admitted; 60 from Northern Ontario

-In 2011: same as above

-In 2010: 64 students admitted; 58 from N.O.

With this said, is it even worth it for OOP students to apply?

As far as I know we have two people OOP this year ... one of rural Nova Scotia and one from the NWT. If you are rural, northern OOP you still have a shot or if you have lived in Northern Ontario/rural-remote Canada for a large part of your life ... we have several people who have lived in Toronto for 10+ years but they lived in Northern Ontario up until high school.

If you are OOP with no rural remote context it is virtually a zero chance though .... to be honest.

Is it worth applying if I lived in rural communities overseas until age 19 when I moved to Canada? Never lived in rural community in Canada... but strong interest and currently working in a job related to rural health research. Also worked with underserved inner-city communities for 4+ years in Canada.

Strong GPA and extra-curriculars.

Thoughts?
