Ttoronto
Hello, I am in a bit of dilemma with regards to setting up my electives for next year. I am looking to apply to both peds and FM with the aim doing the an extra year to focus my practice in peds. What sort of electives in FM to do that I can still justify for peds programs? Any suggestions? Ps I am looking to apply only in Ontario which limits my options! Thank you,
justletmein
probably you can set up an FM elective with a preceptor who does a lot of peds... sometimes you can find a "maternal-child" rotation which will focus mostly on OBS, newborn medicine, and peds. FM docs have extremely varied practices, some concentrate on EM, cancer, sports medicine ... definitely find an FM doc who is oriented towards what Justletmein recommends. what
This may be of consideration as well: http://www.familymedicine.uottawa.ca/eng/pg_PGY3-Pediatrics-Residents.html Ottawa has a +1 year in peds for people who want more experience.
