jawad12ca
Hey guys, just a question. I'm a canadian who went south to med school in the US. Plan is to do FM residency in US and come up for a year fellowship, anyone know how competitive it is to apply for the extra EM year as a US grad? leviathan
Heard it's pretty competitive even for Canadian residency grads. I would try to find an FM program in the states that gives you lots of flexibility in terms of electives, and focus all yours on EM. Then worst case scenario you can find a rural emerg to work in for a few years and just challenge the CCFP-EM exam.
justletmein
if you are dead-set on the CCFP EM fellowship, I suggest you do your FM residency in Canada.
Alastriss
I would agree, it's not impossible to get in but it will be tougher. +1 is generally competitive for ER but the "competitive" definition changes as the years go by. People are less willing to move around, they apply to less programs, etc so if you really really want it and are willing to give up anything for it then it won't be as bad as it sounds. babymissiles
Can someone give an indication as to how competitive the emergency fellowships are for students coming out of a Canadian FM residency? Any idea of the % of students who are accepted?
