What are everyone's thoughts on becoming an ontario dental association student member?

The benefits and services are listed as accessing certain sections of their website, getting the monthly ontario dentist journal, and free first aid and cpr training, special events, etc...

The cost is $190 for your 4 yrs.

Is it worth it??? Or, just a way to get more $$$ out of us?

Hey HOTfuschsia,

I was wondering about this too and whether we're all supposed to become members. Can any current Ontario dent students answer this?

Everyone in my class joined CDA/ODA to

a) get CPR training

B) get free insurance coverage

The journals are not so useful, it can be accessed at the

library, and boxes of them are strewn all over the lounge.

The research services sound cool but are in reality not

something we use.

To elaborate on the insurance coverage, it gives some

money if you lose the use of an important body component,

like an arm or an eye. I guess that helps you pay off

tuition debts or something.

They also give some seminars but don't check your member

card...

Hi, I seem to be answering a lot of questions today, but only b/c I am bored out of my mind. I just finished 1st year at UofT. Everyone in my class, and I think every student in UofT dent (I am not too sure about the foreign dentists in UofT’s qualifying program) is a member. It’s a good idea to become one. The organization does a lot for dentists, like keep class sizes low (less competition when you graduate), keep dentistry out of OHIP (more money, no cap) and, of course, other more official things. It’s a proud organization that every (there may be one or two that are not) dentists in Ontario is privileged to join. By the way, I am not a spokesman or nothing. I just gave my opinion.
