Lysander
Well that is interesting! My offer letter stated acceptance for Calgary but does not mention anything about fees. My quote was from the website but maybe they don't have that same arrangement for this year. It is too bad that we would have to pay full price for transit since that is pretty much the only way to get into downtown everyday. Is the OT program also at the UofC building downtown or do you guys have classes at another location?
Skier_Chic
I will be very surprised if we find out that the PT program arranged a transit agreement but the OT program didn't. Maybe I'll send an email to confirm. Our classes are one block farther south at 999, 8th street.
myb
Can anyone tell me where I can find how much tuition and fees will be for our first year? I need to apply for student loan soon. Thanks:) Any info on bursaries, if no scholarships?
Skier_Chic
I think we only have access to the old fees at the moment: http://www.otstudenthandbook.ualberta.ca/registration_fees_examinations_grades_withdrawals#fees BTW, I emailed the Calgary admin person and she said the health plan and transit pass were still being negotiated. Fingers crossed.
myb
Thank you for the update. My fingers are crossed!
Skier_Chic
So I talked with one of the Calgary coordinators, and as it stands there will be no discounted transit pass for OT students. They couldn't reach any agreement with the City of Calgary for student fees. We are however, covered under the GSA health insurance plan held by the graduate student dept. Some positive in this situation.
myb
Do you know if we have access to UCalgary facilities?
Skier_Chic
I would be very surprised if we had any agreements with the U of C; there's none that I've been told of. In case of any confusion, the building we are taking classes in is not the new U of C building on 8th street, it's an office tower one block south. myb
Ok. Thanks for the info. Yeah, I guess the location is by TR Tech? I thought because the physio program had an agreement that the OT program would have the same. Oh well:)
Skier_Chic
Well we can still hope. Yeah, I was near there on Sunday and saw that TR Tech is on the first floor I think? Not sure. It's really eerie, the 7th floor of 999 is the exact office tower I first worked at in Calgary. The company left there a few years ago so it's possible we're even in that same office space. Simply freaky.
myb
That's cool:) Seems to be right next to the LRT? Should be fun.
myb
I am coming from Victoria. It is stressful having to relocate! I am wondering about where to stay during the week while in Edmonton...for the Calgary cohort:)
OTYear1
Hey guys. The OT and PT programs in Calgary are completely different. They do have a discounted transit pass and access to U of C facilities because they're renting from the U of C campus downtown. The OT program for Calgary was really late being organized so it didn't have the opportunity to have the same rental space and therefore benefits. The last I heard, the OT program in Calgary will not have transit passes again this year, and will not have a gym membership. There are very cheap options if you are considered low income which some of you should be due to being student status (see the City of Calgary website for more info on "fee assistance"). As of about a month ago they were still figuring out where the program was going to be based out of, but it looked like it would be in TR tech on the 7th floor again (which is actually pretty awesome). The health benefits are the exact same and Calgary has "network" places to go for chiro, physio, massage, dental, etc. so you'll get the same benefits as if you were in Edmonton. Mhunte03
Hey guys, Does anyone know if the OT program at u of A is full? I am on the waiting list but somewhere towards the end and I am just praying each day lol. Thanks! I'm on the waitlist as well, I spoke to Michelle on the phone the other day, and yes the program is full, wait list will only move if people reject acceptances. ccbbb
Has anyone found out their place on the wait list? I called a couple days ago and I asked how many people were on the wait list...she said approximately 50. It's the not knowing that makes me nervous. whartonmba99@yahoo.com
these people told me they have 50 people still on the waitlist. how can you have 50 people on the wait list...its just crazy.
whartonmba99@yahoo.com
dont hold your breath honey, I am in the middle of the line and was told to go ahead and make any other plans if I have them because the chances of me being accepted is when 25 people in front of me drop dead...just saying if you are at the end of the line you better start looking for a job. Skier_Chic
Has anyone closely read the course outlines from 2012/2013? It looks to me at first glance that we might not have class of fieldwork during part of July and all of August. Does this sound right? I'm wondering about summer employment.
