DrDelasoul
Hi Everyone, I'm new to the site and I've been doing some research and trying to figure out which are canadian friendly and which ones are worth applying to with my stats (DO/MD). I'm currently at working on a Masters in Science at a Canadian university. I'm having some trouble narrowing down my options, I've got a list of just over 20 schools (Mostly safety schools, I'm more worried about getting in at all than I am about getting into the ideal school) and I was aiming for something closer to 8-12. My Stats: GPA: 3.61 cGPA (3.64 sGPA) Increasing with 3.9+ in my final year MCAT: 2nd Attempt: 33Q (11BS, 11PS, 11VR, Q) 1st Attempt: 32Q (12BS, 9PS, 11VR, Q) ECs: 6 Years volunteering with the community church 4 Years volunteering with the school website 2 Years Undergrad TAing 2 Summers of Undergrad research 2 Years on a Research Conference planning committee 1 Year as an Residence Don 1 Year Clinical Practicum with a Psychologist 1 Year on the First Response Team Various clubs and student government positions (President of two clubs) 2 Published papers, one as first author (1 more in review, but it probably won't be published before I submit the application) 2 Poster Presentations No Shadowing I'm currently looking at a lot of DO schools since I match or beat most of their requirements, the historically black colleges because I'm african american (Does that affect my application if I'm Canadian?), and a few of the lower tier MD schools. This is my list of schools currently under consideration based on my preliminary research: Arizona Phoenix Chicago Med Commonwealth Des Moines Drexel Eastern Virginia Edward Via Virginia Howard Jefferson Marshall-Edwards Meharry Michigan State (MD and DO) Morehouse Nova Southeastern Pacific Northwest University Penn State Temple Touro Tulane University of New England Vermont Virginia Commonwealth Virginia Tech Carilion Wake Forest Wayne State West Virginia Western University William Carey Are there any schools I should drop/add? BubbaBlue
You are very competitive at Howard. I know a Canadian who graduated form there and is now practicing in Canada. Your MCAT is two points higher than their 90th percentile.
advair250
You are AA, you should get some love from MD schools. The MSc and 3.9 recent year with a solid MCAT and exceptional ECs = That is a big factor in the U.S. being a minority.
lalab
I think you should also apply to some Canadian schools like Toronto (your first author pub will get you far), McMaster (where you get a grad school bonus and your VR is high enough) and Queen's (where they have a special grad school pool and again your VR is high enough). It's cheaper and you can still go down to the US after to practice.
