How to Find Professors to Research With

Hey guys,

 

I was wondering how to find professors/labs that you can do research with. I was told that we should email professors, but which professors do we email? Should I just email every professor that I can think of or only those that I have had classes with? Also, is there any other way besides emailing professors? I was told that the job sites for your school might have some opportunities but I was not able to find any there.

Sometimes each department will have a listing. If not, just email professors whose work you are interested in - this does involve randomly browsing their profile pages. Introduce yourself, attach a resume (hopefully it's good), and say something about why you're interested in their work. It would help to read a few abstracts from their recent work to reference, so they know you're not just mass emailing randomly.

 

Another way is to go through grad students. Often they will want undergraduates to help them with their experiments, but then you don't get your own project.
