uwodesperate
Do program directors take age into consideration when selecting applicants for their programs? The reason why I ask is because I will most likely be in my early 30s when I start residency and I am wondering if my non-traditional age will limit my options in the future. Lactic Folly
Sure, it may be noticed - though someone in their early 30s is hardly that 'non-traditional' compared to other people starting residency in their late 20s. Usually that term conjures up someone who looks visibly older (if that is you, sorry), has had a significant career prior to medicine, or talks about their pre-teen/teenage children... But why worry about something you can't change? If you present your age as a strength, then that is how it will come across. Same thing if you present it as a liability. rask
My SO was 35 when interviewing and matched to his first choice so it obviously isn't that big of a deal, at least not in every specialty. I don't believe it ever came up in the interviews.
