Internal Medicine Return of Service for IMG

Can anyone who is in internal medicine in Ontario as an IMG explain to me how exactly the RoS works? From what i know, its something you sign individually with the residency program. Does that mean different people can have different RoS requirements in the same residency program?

Also, where are you able to do residency since IM is considered a specialist? Is it truly northern ontario as in North Bay or above or is it everywhere but downtown Toronto?

Also, if you get a fellowship in the US, are you able to go to the US to complete your fellowship before completing your RoS in Canada?

Thanks

I think Toronto and Ottawa are the exclusion zones. You sign it with the ministry of health, not the university. In exchange for your residency training, you agree to with for X years (?5 for everyone) in Ontario, outside the exclusion zones. There is financial penalties if you break the contract.

Residency is not limited. You can go to any Ontario residency program, provided you get a spot in the match.
