Anyone watch The Apprentice?

Maybe it's just TV's tendency to show the most dramatic moments, but was it me, or did all of the final four contestants on the reality show, The Apprentice, have pretty horrible interview skills?

 

Amy didn't even appear to be answering the questions, just going on a tangent about how she could be good for the company.

 

Nick said he would be a good assistant for The Donald because he had the same characteristics as Trump (wouldn't you want your apprentice to bring some diversity, rather than being like a Mini You?)

 

Nick used the old perfectionist answer to "What is your biggest fault?"

 

Is it just me, or would these people do horribly if faced with a med school interview? Maybe it's because they're entrepreneurs who don't have much experience with interviewing, or coast on their appearance or Ivy League pedigree to sell them??

I came across this problem at interviewfeedback:

 

You are in your surgical clerckship. A patient expresses (in writing) his wish that his surgery be performed only by the certified surgeon (no residents). In the surgical room preparing for the operation (patient is under), the surgeon walks in and says that he talked with the patient and it's ok for the resident to do the work. The resident operates, and at the end, the surgeon asks you to suture the patient. What do you do? After the patient wakes up, you are in his room and he asks you "did doctor X do the operation all by himself, like I asked?" What do you tell the patient? Now answer those questions again assuming that doctor X (the surgeon) is the physician evaluating you for this clerkship.

 

what would you do?

 

my opinion: I would mention that patient autonomy was not being preserved here. I would determine if it was not within the patients consent form that this is a teaching hospital and therefore, residents may very well assist in procedures (if so, then the patient had consented to this) because I can't imagine that a teaching hospital would not offer such a disclaimer to patients. Assuming that the patient was not invited to give consent s to whether or not a resident may assist in their operation, I would have perhaps tried to mention something to the surgeon during surgery regarding the fact that I was aware the patient had a document explicitly stating that they are not operated on by anyone but dr.X. For the purpose of advocating for the patient and concern for the legal mess that I could find myself in, I would be sure to approach the surgeon, even if he was the one to get me in to my clerkship. I think that the latter situation is unlikely because teaching hospitals do have some form of disclaimer regarding who will be involved with patient care.
