medmanitoba
Hello, I am just wondering if any one knows if most U.S. schools accepting Canadians require a full year of undergrad english to apply. My school (U of M) does not require english to register for medical school, so I had not taken it in undergrad. Any help is appreciated. Thank you
Dizzle_
Most (almost all) yes.
medmanitoba
Do you need the credits at the time of application, or at the time of matriculation?
advair250
At time of application is preferred, but not required
medmanitoba
So it would be possible to get an offer of admission before actually taking the courses? For example, receive an offer in winter and then take the courses in the summer. I have already completed my B.Sc. so these courses would be extra. advair250
Why not just take them now then?
medmanitoba
If I receive an offer from my preferred school (U of M) than I would be able to save myself time and money by not taking the two english courses, as they do not require them. Falling
Does it have to be an English course or just a very writing extensive course? I have a minor in philosophy and have taken a bunch of essay based courses, but have never taken an English course.

You'll probably have to go to individual school sites to pick them out. Alternatively, you could email the schools to ask/let them know.

advair250
Very few schools allow substitutes, best to just take the English classes. Don't most degrees require them these days anyways?

Most degrees just require 6 credit hours in the Humanities and 6 credit hours in Social Sciences.
advair250
Regardless, there's a limited number of schools that take internationals, so you would be only further inhibiting yourself if you only applied to ones that take substitutes.
Falling
In my case, I'm only applying to the schools that look very favourably towards reinvention for non trads. Most of those schools don't have an English requirement. In any case, I may take an English course just in case.
