Where to live in Winnipeg

Hi everyone,

 

Wanted to introduce myself here. I will be starting a residency in Winnipeg in July and was wondering if you guys know:

 

1) Where do most residents (or medical students) live in Winnipeg?

2) Recommendations as to buy vs. rent currently?

3) Specific knowledge of the Corydon/Crescentwood area or the Fort Garry neighborhood

Hi everyone,

1) Where do most residents (or medical students) live in Winnipeg?

 

Osborne Village if renting. People who buy tend to be scattered across the city. Many still live at home.

 

2) Recommendations as to buy vs. rent currently?

 

Many factors at play: how long is your residency? Do you have money for a down payment? What kind of neighbourhood are you willing or wanting to live in? Condo vs. house? How much do you want to spend on time and money on commuting? These combos all come in to play. Browse through MLS for different housing prices for the different areas. Also, go talk to a MD Management financial advisor to see what kind of financial situation you will be in, and they can help you figure out possibly what you can afford.

 

3) Specific knowledge of the Corydon/Crescentwood area or the Fort Garry neighborhood

 

Former - Reasonable area to live in for community and commuting. Your income would likely limit you to buying a condo in this area.

Latter - a little bit far from the hospitals. Nasty commutes.
