Mock 9: What's the most important characteristic of a doc?

One of the UWO med clubs (beyond borders) organised an info session with a Jehohah's Witness Hospital liason group...they came in with a full slide presentation and an impressive stack of well respected journal articles detailing the safety and efficacy of 'bloodless' medicine and surgery. It was very interesting to have them clarify their position on blood and their opinions on their children...they wanted to make it very clear that they DO NOT resist modern medicine nor do they want to martyr themselves or their children...they simply believe that taking blood is morally wrong and that it is stated directly in the bible that it is morally wrong.

There is a large network of hospital liason committees...they have a toll free 24 hour number...and a large amount of experience both in other alternatives to blood and the legal implications of any decision....

Ummm... to answer the original question:

I'd say "dedication to his commitment/responsibility as a doctor." This sort of encompasses empathy for the patient, smarts, etc.

Is this a cop-out response? :D

Lol chieka101. In the way that people have been describing it here, maybe it is a cop-out answer. It seems a lot like wishing-for-more-wishes rather than taking a stance on what qualities are important. :)

What about a really dumb doctor who couldn't relate to people but really, really wanted to do the best job possible for his patients? I don't know how good that would be...
