Guest tappety tap Posted March 15, 2003 Report Share Posted March 15, 2003 Is there a universal (meaning Canadian-wide) agreement to what procedures are covered by medicare and which aren't...or can it vary province to province? Along the same lines, as new technology and treatments develop, how does this coverage get updated? I know it's based on "medically-necessary" procedures, but obviously there is a large fuzzy zone. Guest MayFlower1 Posted March 15, 2003 Report Share Posted March 15, 2003 Hey M, Apparently, the vast majority of "medically necessary" treatments are covered across the country, however, there is still considerable variation from province-to-province-to-territory. If you check out the Canada Health Act, it is pretty vague with respect to what is covered (it just says "medically necesary" and stuff that is normally done in a hospital). Canada Health Act Overview The Romanow report makes the observation that this is a current problem and is not giving Canadians equal access.
