entangledphoton
How easy/difficult do you think it would be to set up international research blocks during an IM residency assuming you already had contacts at external institutions? Are there any programs/program directors that might be more or less amenable to using elective blocks as such?

Are there any programs/program directors that might be more or less amenable to using elective blocks as such? This would be a case by case thing in most instances. Certainly do able in most residency programs if well organized enough. There are several folks who did this in my program albeit I'm not in an IM program. A-Stark
It's pretty typical to have at least optional research blocks (sometimes one per year) in IM programs. I don't know if international locations would be allowed in all circumstances but it's still probably possible.
leviathan
I know several IM programs in Canada that allow you to do away electives, and those can literally be in any specialty and anywhere in the world, within reason.
