Usmle Step Scores Important For Us Fellowship Purposes?

Everything in the title.

 

PGY-3 resident here doing his USMLEs. Obviously some (most?) of the material covered in step 1 was learnt and forgot a long time ago and my goal was just to pass the USMLE for fellowship purposes. Is that a good strategy or I HAVE to pass them with a high score?
