flamingelephants
As an m3 at a threeyear program, I am in the midst of my internal medicine rotation. I had planned my elective schedule to apply for peds or family but found that I enjoyed working in internal much more than I expected but my electives are over and carms is staring me in the face. Any advice on what to do at this point?
HBP
Fairly overlapping specialties. Ask some of your peds/family supervisors to write internal letters for you, get one from your core. Mention that in your personal letters. I'm sure you'll still match to internal.
flamingelephants
Thank you for your feedback. I hope it doesn't look too badly that my core letter will be from someone working with me for two weeks (assuming they'll write one) and that the rest will be peds/family supervisors. I suppose I will hope for the best.
medaholic
Luckily there's a lot of overlap between internal, peds, family - all primary care specialties. Second, internal is not overly competitive so it's always worth a try. I had friends apply to all three, not knowing which one they liked best. It was only after their interviews did they make that choice.
