On Dal's website it says that there are 2 reasons why you haven't heard from the admissions committee:

1) they haven't gotten to your file yet

2) your file has been placed in the deferred category

my question is: how do you know if your file has been placed in the deferred category? Is there a letter that is sent notifying you or do you have to call in wondering what's taking so long and they tell you over the phone?

Thanks in advance!

You definitely don't get a letter, and as far as I know, they won't tell you over the phone either way. So pretty much, you'll have to just sit tight I think...

If you're deferred at some point along the way, are you just kept in that pile until the end of June? Or do they review some of the deferred files during the weekly meetings?

They review all the deferred files in June sometime, after they've gone through each person's file once during the weekly meetings. At this point they know how many spots are left open and these are filled with people from the deferred pile.
