Guest rmac77
I am interested in Opthalmology, however realize it is a competitive field. Can someone give me an idea as to how competitive (ie. how many schools offer the program, how many applied, etc.)? Thanks.
Guest Ian Wong
Ophtho is right up there at the top of the competitiveness scale. This last year might have been a bit of an aberration, with CaRMS stats of 41% matching their first choice program, and 78% matching into an Ophtho program somewhere. www.carms.ca/stats/stats2003.htm Usually the numbers are quite a bit lower than this, ie: for 2002, it was 41% matching their first choice, but only 59% matching into a program somewhere. These are the programs that offer Ophthalmology residencies in Canada: www.carms.ca/programdir/spec.htm#OPHTHALMOLOGY In general, the entire CaRMS site is worth browsing through, as there's lots of old statistics and other such information available. http://www.carms.ca Ian
