Still accomodation searching... I wanted to get an idea from upper-years at UT what it's like to commute? Up to now I've just been looking at decent places right near campus (yay expensive!). I had a feeling first year would be pretty demanding and it would be nice to live within walking distance.

 

Can anybody comment on how the schedule works out for first year and even upper years? Are clinical hours really odd that taking the subway would be a problem?

<pagetext>The one big criticism that I have heard about U of T is that clinical clerks don't get to do much.

 

I have heard that because of the sheer volume of residents and fellows at U of T, clerks do a lot of standing around, observing and just writing down orders for docs/residents.

 

On the other hand, I have heard from several independent sources that Western clerks get a lot of responsibility, get to put in lines, delivery babies and are actually an essential part of the health care delivery system.

 

I have two questions:

 

1. Is there any truth to what I have heard? If not, please clarify.

 

2. Does it matter all that much? I have heard that while PGY-1s from Western enter residency with far superior skills, PGY-1s from Toronto catch up in a couple of months.

A few quick questions. Is UTAPS something we have to follow up or does UT do all the legwork and let us know if we are eligible for more funding?

 

As well, this might sound really stupid but is UT tuition approx. $17K every year? Our green financial page lists first year tuition. But does tuition change in year 2 or during clinicals?
