Guest DrNicki
Does anyone know if a PDA is necessary or comes in handy at Queens? I know that certain med schools recommend them, but in our acceptance letter they only suggested having a computer. Anyone in this year's class have one? Find it useful? Thanks, N. Guest seedstrike
Some people in my class use them...but the majority doesn't. You don't need a pda until clerkship starts in your third year. Some of my classmates have useful programs on their pda's (eg harrison's internal meds and rapid consult progs) but their utility at this stage (first two years) is questionable. I'd recommend you to save your money and buy a good pda at the end of your second year.

Guest nextstopmd
I find that a PDA can be really useful for scheduling during the year, especially with trying to juggle school and other activities. That's not to say that a paper schedule won't work, but sometimes it's nice to have a PDA, even if you're not really using it for all that much medical yet. I do use my medical dictionary on it rather often though. Plus, it's great to have one to keep you occupied during boring lectures!
