John Lacey
Hello everyone, Currently a first year in my second semester and so far it's not going well. Got a 73% in my first semester and not doing well this semester (a wake up call for me to do better). Will this have a big effect on my cGPA and my chances for med school? More importantly, how big of a deal is this? How worried should I be?
frenchpress
It’s not that big of a deal. Many schools allow you to drop your worst year, or do other things that recognize students may have a bad year. And if you spend some time calculating out averages you’ll see a handful of courses does little to change your average over the course of a 4-year degree. Figure out where you’re going wrong (go to office hours, access tutoring resources at your school, etc) and put the time in to address your approach to school so you can bring you grades up. If you can’t do that then you will have a problem.
No Name Brand
As mentioned above, many schools allow you to drop your worst year (which for most is their first year). It is a transition time for everybody - you will be alright at the end of the day. Heck, it might even be a good interview experience when the time comes.
