Aviation Medicine

Recommended Posts

Hello all! I am a commercial pilot in a remote area of Canada. I am interested in medicine for various reasons and want to explore pursuing it. I have always been interested in sciences and have a strong desire to understand how the human body works. I've also always exceled in education and enjoy learning new things. Through various family health issues, I've had to learn a lot about pathophysiology and research various medical topics. Has anyone heard of pilots switching careers to medicine in the past? I would assume this would be a rare thing as most pilots generally have the goal to fly larger aircraft and dedicate their lives to the field. I know in the US there are many wealthy pilots who own and operate their own aircraft on a private level. However, I haven't heard of any commercial level pilots making the career change. Any advice or general suggestions on where I go from here?

I have not personally heard of a pilot going into medical school but there is no reason why you couldn't like any other non-trad applicant. It would probably look unique on an app for places that care about ECs. You don't mention if you already have done an undergrad, but if not you'll basically be starting from scratch.
