Guest hringrose
Hi, Just wondering if anyone on these boards has any experience with electives in the Far North...NWT, Churchill, Moose Factory, Northern Quebec etc. I am hoping to do an elective in Canada's north and would like to know if any sites/communities are recommended. I am looking for a site with preceptors who want to teach, a bursary program to help cover expenses and a close-knit community. I have only heard of one student going up north and he ended up doubling as a veterinarian when some huskies were attacked by polar bears and needed to be stitched up in the local hospital! I hope someone can provide some input/advice. Thanks, hringrose
Guest blinknoodle
I have no experience with Northern electives, but you can find info about the bursary programs for Northern Ontario programs here: NOMEC (includes Moose Factory) NOMP
Guest Lactic Folly
People from the NWT came to our school to offer information on electives and working up north. Their website is: www.hlthss.gov.nt.ca/Care...sician.asp I also have an email from the recruiter giving an outline of info on rural electives, a testimonial, and some info sheets. If you PM me your email address, I can forward it to you.
