Applying for CaRMS as the first graduating class of a New School

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Since beginning med school we as the charter class at NOSM have been hearing bits and pieces about CARMS. Without an upper class we have perhaps made our own reality and fears. We have heard rumours that being a new school it will be difficult to obtain speciality spots within the CARMS match. Do you have any advice or thoughts on this that could help us be best prepared for when this happens in a year and a bit from now. By the way the speciality that has been playing across my mind is paeds or obs/gyne... and not sure how many elective hours I should start putting in seeing this is my 2nd year of school.

Thanks,

Northerndoc

Hi there,

As long as you complete some electives in the areas that interest you (and do well in them), as well as in other possible geographical locations which might be of interest re: residency, then I don't see how you might be disadvantaged come CaRMS time.

Cheers,

Kirsteen
