bioboy2007
Since OMSAS was submitted about six weeks ago, I was wondering whether there was any information on how many applicants have applied to each school for 2007. I'm interested to see the effect of the double cohort on number of applicants to Ontario schools. Does anyone have information on this?
TonesRN
I contacted McMaster and asked them this question specifically. They told me that they received just over 4800 applicants this year which is up a couple hundred applicants over last year and about 900 applicants from the year before. TBJ1
I don't think anyone would doubt an increase this year. The increase will probably continue for years to come given that the increase in undergraduate enrolment did not decrease after the double cohorts. So, undergraduate enrolment has continued to increase even after the double cohort year. I assumed that one year (the year when both grade 12 & 13 graduated at the same time) had many students enrolled in universities and that the enrollment levels tapered off afterwards? TBJ1
So, undergraduate enrolment has continued to increase even after the double cohort year. Well, the numbers of decreased since 2003, but the undergraduate enrolment is still far greater than in the 90's or early part of this decade. The bottom line is that there are a greater number of students attending undergraduate and that should translate into increases in medical school applicants. Smurfette
But there has also been an increase in the number of spots in medical school. Probably not as large proportionally - I haven't crunched the numbers. But it's still something to keep in mind.
