research during med school?

I would like to participate in research during medical school, but I don't know if there is enough time for one to do such things during school. I know the summers after the 1st years are free for whatever we want to do. But do many students work or participate in research activities during medical school? If so, during which of the 4 years?

Thanks in advance!

No idea about the scholarships for the 2008 class... I imagine they will be presented at White coat with the rest of the scholarships.

The upper year classes have until Sept 15 to apply... but that is a one year only thing... because after this year, the only 'new' recipients will be in the incoming class. (It is a continuing scholarship)

i remember the form saying something about 15 scholarships. so is that 15 split over 4 years of med school classes?

there are other scholarships? oohwee, adds a little excitement to the whitecoat. kinda like goin to a fundraiser with draws...you never know, you could be a winner :D

There are 15 scholarships per class... so there will be 15 people in the class of 2008 that get a Schulich scholarship... There will also be 15 people in the class of 2007, 15 in 2006 and 15 in 2005. The scholarship is for 4 years, so, the 15 that get it in meds 2008 will get $$ each year until they graduate... and the 118 that don't get it, will never apply again.

There are a few other scholarships around... worth ~$10 000 each... you should have gotten info about them as well in your acceptance package. They will be presented at White coat... (at least they have been in past years)
