did UBC jack up the tuition?

I check out the price from here. http://www.dentistry.ubc.ca/academic_programs/dmd/class_of_2011_projected_fees.pdf I estimated that it takes 200K to get a DMD degree from UBC. Did UBC jack upt the tution after building the new clinic?

hehe great question... of course UBC increased their tuition!!! The new Dean is an ex-dean from USC (one of the most expensive schools in North America) I have heard that he thinks these tuition prices are very fair for having a new clinic. Also, every year the total fee is increased by a minimal amount compared to the overall projected fee (class of 2010 was 15,000 cheaper in projected fees than class of 2011). Tuition is usually the same about 14,000-15,000 its the clinical fee that keep going up.

I just spotted this thread and had a quick look at the cost breakdown. What is the deal with that clinic fee? Although the fine print notes that students may opt out of certain fees, is that fee one of them? What does that fee encompass?

When I was there for my interview in February they explained the clinic fee:

 

1) You can't opt out.

 

2) The clinic fee is for the use of the clinic facilities in years 3 & 4; however, the total clinic cost is spread out over 4 years (eventhough you're in clinic for only two years)
