PDA Specs for clerkship

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone!

I was wondering what capabilities a PDA should have for clerkship and beyond. I am thinking of getting a blackberry to stay in touch with friends and family, but would like to know if it could function as a PDA as well.

Thank you!!

You might be getting a bit ahead of yourself on this one :) I think the BB does have some functionality on the medical side of things. Personally, for now you are better off getting a normal phone and worrying about the PDA when clerkship rolls around. Have a look at this thread over at SDN, it'll give you a rough idea as to what people are using right now:

I'd avoid the blackberry if you are thinking of using it as a PDA in the future though. I'm thinking about getting the Palm TX, but I haven't done enough research yet. You can check out http://www.cnet.com for reviews on most of the popular PDAs. You can also check out this topic list at SDN if you want way too much information about PDAs/smartphones/medical software:

You can contact MedTech if you really are serious about buying a PDA now that will be suitable for your needs 2+ years from now.

Of the 3 we med students got a deal on, I purchased the HP iPAQ hx2790b....if that helps you at all. We got a pretty good deal, about $80 off the retail price.

What you need to do is research the programs you want to put on your PDA and see if the ones you want are available for blackberry. There are some right now....but in 2 years so much changes!
