Stethoscopes

Hi everybody,

 

I was hoping for some advice on buying stethoscopes. Which one would you recommend for a first-yr student- the Master or the Cardiology III? Thanks.

My school did a sale where the reps came and had samples of all of the stethoscopes and better prices than you could get elsewhere. If your school does this I'd wait, try out the stethoscopes, see which one is more comfortable and that you can hear better through...most people do get the CardioIII but it is entirely a personal decision.

I thought all first yr med students across Canada get stethos for free from their provincial medical associations?

 

Edited to add: Everyone in my class has a Cardiology III and they all seem to be happy with it.

Personally, I went for the Cardiology III. Its got great acoustics while not being too specialized. I was told that you have to be careful with the pro as you might hear too many artifacts when auscultating that it may be more difficult when you are just learning. But then again, stethoscopes are something that you will be using for a LONG time and thus if you see cardiology, etc. in your future go for the pro.

We didn't get free stethoscopes (at UofA). I didn't know that other people did...I guess if you do then you don't have to think or worry too much about which one you are getting. It's hard to turn down a free stethoscope.

Even the OOP students in my class got one ...and I think they give them out at MUN as well. Oh well, lucky me then I guess

We didn't get them at U of S either. Just got a reflex hammer. I'd rather have the stethoscope

Anyone have a chance to try or own the Doctor's Research Group stethoscope? Seems like there's some good things being said about them.

The NB students at MUN get one from their provincial medical association. I would imagine the PEI students do too, as the PEI students in Dal get them. The NL students don't get one from the NLMA however.

 

Apparently the NB students also get a palm handheld at some point too.
