5th Gold Medal in Ice Dancing and what a freaking performance.

I apologize for my tardiness... I was watching from my bed as I had to be up early this morning. Technically they received their medals right around midnight so I'm going to say responding today isn't a problem lol.

A pair of people winning makes this a tough task.

North London and Ilderton are only about 10 minutes apart, but I'm going to try to represent them both in one song.

White Stripes - Little Acorn

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pz4dVof3mTc

On the surface, you must wonder how the white stripes represent two Canadian communities. However, if you make the short trip up to Ilderton from London you pass through the tiny little town that joins the two called Arva.

I believe it was last summer that the white stripes played a Canadian tour that embraced some smaller cities. They even went up to the territories and everywhere in between it seemed. At almost every show, they did some secret performance somewhere really odd whether it was on a bus, malls or other places.

The day of the London concert, and I'll always regret missing it, they performed a free secret show at the Arva Flour Mill, which is just north of london and just before Ilderton Rd. which leads right into the centre of the tiny community. The location was released only and an hour before the performance. It's the only concert of any magnitude that Arva has ever seen and likely the only one they'll ever see.

So please listen to hilarious song by the white stripes and listen to the lyrics as they're ridiculous. I would be surprised to ever find another band that represents the link between London and Ilderton Ontario. Congratulations Scott and Tessa.

those white stripes concerts were legendary because at each show (in each of 13 provinces/territories) they made a very few number of original silk-screened posters. Seeing as Newfoundland was the last stop on the trip, I knew that a lot of poster collectors/hardcore white stripes fans would be dying to complete the set.

I brought a cardboard tube to the concert to keep the gem intact. Bought it for 30, sold it on ebay for 300.

what a concert!

Keep the Gold's coming!

#6 Gold from Whistler B.C.'s Ashleigh McIvor in Ski Cross.

As Canadians we should be thanking our lucky stars for ski and snowboard cross events.

2 Golds and 1 Silver, and what should have been 1 Bronze if not for a heartbreaking fall.

Back to the B.C. bands... and I'm very very excited about this recommendation. I figured, alright I'll just throw in a Vancouver based, New Pornographers song out, only to find a CBC article from yesterday saying the New Pornographers just released their first single from their upcoming album to be released this spring.

New Pornographers - Your hands (together)

http://www.matadorrecords.com/mpeg/the_new_pornographers/new_pornographers_your_hands_together.mp3

A day with a gold medal is a good one.

A day with new new pornographers is a good one.

A day with both..... amazing.

Let's go Canada!!! Bring on the Germans.

P.S. Canadian tire had replica hockey jerseys on sale from $100 down to $40. So I'll be dressed for the occasion at the bar tonight.

Down to $40?! Damnit, do I have enough time to head to CT and back?! lol

Haha the only way I can do this is two songs.

I searched all the relevant PEI bands I knew to see if they had any Alberta influence in them.

No dice.

So for Gold Medal # 7 (ties a record for Golds by Canada) in the 2 Woman Bobsleigh by Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse

Chad VanGaalen - Willow Tree

VanGaalen vies for my top 3 musical acts of all time. Weird guy, but just an unbelievable music. Very low key... a certain haunting element to his lyrics. I feel if I were to meet him in person, he would be "too deep" to talk to lol.

Regardless, my picture on premed is Chad VanGaalen album artwork.

Over at SDN it's broken social scene lol.

For PEI... it was either Two hours traffic or the Danks.

I'll go with

Two Hours Traffic - Noisemaker

Good band, and I like the video.

Gold Number # 8 x 23 for the Women's Hockey Team

Most Gold Medals for Canada ever.....

I've been relating all these songs to the cities the athletes grew up in, but a whole hockey team is hard to do.... so I'll just recommend a good song that reflects the team's accomplishment lol.

Foals - Gold Gold Gold (lol, get it?)

And

Foals - Olympic Airways (probably the better of the two)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJ3oIGHMYP8

Cool british band that apparently has the olympic spirit.

I have one or two more good recommendations saved up, that I hope to make.

Between the remaining hockey, curling, Jacey Jay Anderson, and speed skating, I believe I'll get a chance for one or two more at least.

Holy Geez

I take a day and half off to write a couple chemistry exams and I miss 4 Gold Medals.

Charles Hamelin - 500 m short track

Malajube - Pate Filo

Men's Short Track Relay

Sunset Rubdown - Idiot Heart

Men's Long Track Team Pursuit

Rural Alberta Advantage - In the Summertime

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-bSQWRM7_I

Jacey-Jay Anderson - Men's Parallel Giant Slalom Snowboard

Handsome Furs - Radio's Hot Sun

(This is a takeaway show, and always worth watching)

Don't let my lack of description take away from these ones. They're all great songs and bands. We're just winning golds too fast lol. Should have had another one from the Bernard camp... but hey 2nd in the world aint bad lol.

I grin widely at all the skeptics of Canada's ambition and OTP. Overall medal winners or not, this has been the best performance by far for Canadians at an Olympics and leaves me as prouder than ever to be Canadian.

Just looking at the line up for the Lilith Fair 2010 concert. I had to wipe the drool off of my face.

THIS IS INCREDIBLE and for anyone who is a fan of basically any female vocalist (because actually everyone is playing), this might be of interest:

http://www.lilithfair.com/artists

I should dress in drag one of these days and go to Lilith Fair. I actually like a fair number of the artists listed there, although I haven't even heard of some of them. However, I just don't think I'd feel comfortable going as a guy. It'd be like going to watch a taping of Ellen or something. These sorts of things strike me as a time for women to do fun stuff together without any testicles running around ruining things for everyone.

Hahaha! I see what you mean.

How about bringing a female friend along, and pretending to be the devoted boyfriend who came because his girlfriend wanted him too (while secretly enjoying the concert). :)

Do Make Say Think - Do

http://www.myspace.com/domakesaythink

it's just a link to their myspace. Their album had 4 tracks... Do, Make, Say and Think... clever clever....

I think Do is the best on it.... purely instrumental... so don't wait too long for the lyrics, as it is a little over 10 minutes long lol.

I have to get back in to swing of things after unloading all my olympic recommendations.
