Leave of Absence

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I wish I could say. I think a large part of the puzzle is what reason you would give the programs for that time-off. If it's because you wanted to pursue a year of research or something like that, it may even be viewed favourably.

Something out of your control, like a sick family member is probably not going to be looked at negatively. However, if you are taking a year off for personal issues like trying to regroup from a bad academic performance, I would imagine that those types of sabbaticals wouldn't be a good thing.

Probably the best thing to do would be to discuss this with the academic faculty member in your med school who is responsible for your Dean's Letter. They have doubtless encountered this situation before, and may be best placed to give you advice.

Ian
