Wut?
Does that mean next cycle will have that (2009-2010 cycle)? If yes, the hoooooooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. No, the prereq GPA still stands. This message is too short. xorht
The website says that for 2010, the cumulative GPA will be worth 30% and the prereq GPA will be worth 0.... http://www.med.ualberta.ca/education/ugme/admissions/dofm_selection.cfm

Jochi1543
I'm the other way around - pre-req GPA is way easier to raise than cumulative just by virtue of credits. I'd rather they kept the pre-req GPA.

LostLamb
hoping against hope that i get in somewhere this year and this is not something i need to worry about. i totally agree with jochi: pre-req GPA is a help, not a hindrance!!!
kandy4
Pfftt. Orgochem killed me. My pre-req GPA was probably the worst part of my application. I'm glad they are getting rid of it for future applicants
Premedder101
spoke to the admission office recently...effective immediately, pre-req GPA has been removed from the application. I think the weight has been shifted over to cGPA, not sure though.
eyeopener
Anyone know if the cGPA will include spring/summer session courses?
skp1187
Im pretty sure they dont look at your spring and summer courses unless they include any pre req courses
eyeopener
Ah...that's where my dilemma lies. I took organic chem in the summer last year. When UofA had the prereq GPA, they would definitely have looked at those courses to include, however, now that they don't have the prereq GPA anymore, will they still look at my organic chem marks (which are not very nice, btw) for the cGPA? Hmm...

Thanks so so much.. I'd say 3.7/30Q for IP will give you a decent chance at getting an interview, assuming your personal attributes section isn't lacking. future_doc
Do you know off the top of you head if statistics are a requirement in UG or just a recommended course? I am going to try to check the website now. Thanks Wut?
Wut?
It is a prerequisite course. http://www.med.ualberta.ca/education/ugme/admissions/dofm_require.cfm

peapod
oh dear... at first i thought this was good, but second thought, this does not help me at all. My pre-req is higher than my cGPA
Jochi1543
Yeah, I wonder how much average GPA is gonna drop now that they are getting rid of the pre-req GPA.
Wut?
Yeah, I wonder how much average GPA is gonna drop now that they are getting rid of the pre-req GPA. The reported statistics have always given the marks as a cGPA.
Jochi1543
The reported statistics have always given the marks as a cGPA. No...just check here: http://www.med.ualberta.ca/Education/UGME/admissions/dofm_stats.cfm 4 Yr Applicants 2 & 3 Yr Applicants Mean Cumulative GPA 3.85 3.92 Mean Prerequisite GPA 3.86 3.92 Mean MCAT 11.27 11.70 Mean Writing Sample Q R

Jochi1543
That's what I mean. Why would the cGPA change with the removal of the prerequisite GPA? Because people who'd get in thanks to a really high pre-req GPA next to a mediocre cumulative won't have that advantage anymore. So I wonder how it would change the stats of the admitted pool now. Will the cGPA of the admitted students drop? Or, on the contrary, rise because the low cGPA/high pGPA students will have less luck now?
