My mother-in-law tells me Englehart ON is so desperate that they will pay your med school tuition if you go there for 5 years after you finish. Anybody know if this is true or if there are other towns like this, preferably much farther away from my mother-in-law, like British Columbia?

There are lots of places that will pay your tuition if you go work for them for a while. You just need to seek out the communities. I think there is a more organized program for this in Ontario, but lots of communities throughout the country do it.

Ok, here, I found the link:

www.health.gov.on.ca/english/providers/ministry/recruit/tuition.html

You can check out the PAIRO website and links for lots more stuff. :)

NB. This government program has a few drawbacks; one, it hasn't been indexed for the rise in tuition over the last six years; two, it's taxable OFF THE TOP, so the $40K is more like $27K after taxes; three, if you're doing a residency with a community in mind, who's to say that community may not have its needs filled before you complete your training?
