skvangs
Hey guys, i know these threads are somewhat inactive, but if anyone is out there and knows the answer to this question please tell me! how many hours a week on average do plastic surgery residents have to work? is it 60 or more or less than 60? Thanks!
Ollie
You would be hard pressed to find any resident who works less than 60 hours per week.

coastalslacker
You would be hard pressed to find any resident who works less than 60 hours per week. already quoted have been derm, rad onc, path, optho, and nuc med. I would add: emerg, rads, family medicine on service, community health, physiatry, I would bet anaesthesia comes fairly close unless it's a week with lots of call, psych, paeds in many places So....basically most residency programs don't work 60 hour weeks, on average. And radiologists do not work 80 hours a week.... c'mon.

BlackJack
Every surgery residency, save for MAYBE ophtho, is hardcore. You will work like a slave for five to seven years, all while being paid slave wages. Plastic surgery has this misconception about being cush. It is not. It is as hardcore as any other surgical residency. It's the life afterwards as an attending that has relatively more flexibility than other surgical practices. noncestvrai
And radiologists do not work 80 hours a week.... c'mon. Actual "in hospital time", probably not on average, but with all the reading necessary at home, not sure... AND yes, except ophtho, all the surg res suck on lifestyle. noncestvrai
Satsuma
Actual "in hospital time", probably not on average, but with all the reading necessary at home, not sure... I think all residencies just kind of suck in general...some more than others. But no matter what you pick, you still have all your off-service rotations...so you can be an emerg resident...but when you do your internal CTU rotations, or neurosurg rotation or ICU rotations...your life is still gonna suck. I am totally prepared for my life to suck next year. If it doesn't...great! But if it does, at least I have already accepted it. So my point is only this...residency kind of sucks...but it is the life afterward that is more important to consider (I think).
