?Volunteer for Emergency Medicine Course

Recommended Posts

I am writing to let you know about an opportunity coming up next month.

On Saturday June 6th and Sunday June 7th 2009, sixteen experienced Emergency Physicians from across Canada will be coming to the Toronto East General Hospital to participate in an advanced ultrasound course. The course is titled "Emergency Department Echo", or "EDE 2". Bedside ultrasound is relatively new to the practice of Emergency Medicine, and is rapidly changing the way we care for our patients. This course represents the cutting edge of Emergency Medicine today.

We need twelve healthy volunteers to act as models for this course to be a success. Ideal candidates are male, between the ages of 18 and 50. As a volunteer you would act as a model so that the physicians have the opportunity to see normal ultrasound findings. Ultrasound used in this manner is neither dangerous nor uncomfortable although a water-soluble gel is used on the skin. Teaching is one-on-one for the Emergency Physicians so you would not be in front of a crowd. Although many parts of the body are covered, no scans require the removal of a pair of shorts, for example.

As a volunteer for our course, you can expect to benefit in the following ways:

1) You are directly contributing to Emergency Medical education and improved safety for patients in Emergency Departments across the country.

2) A $100 honorarium per day of your time will be donated to you or the charity of your choice.

3) This is an opportunity to see cutting edge emergency medicine techniques first-hand.

4) There will be ample time during each day for your own work and/or meeting others with a shared interest in Emergency Medicine.

Please respond to phannam2002@gmail.com for further details.

I hope that you will consider attending.

Sincerely,

Paul Hannam MD, CCFP(EM)

Chief, Department of Emergency Medicine
