mean GPA of applicants to UofT

Hello,

 

I noticed on their site that the mean GPA of the applicants to UofT was 3.55 but mean GPA of matriculates was 3.91.

 

Why is there such a huge difference? That seems like then out of 565 people applied, most people had mean GPA of lower than 3.55 to balance out the entering class' high GPA. Or perhaps there is a fair number of people who apply with like 2.0 GPA?!?

 

Any explanations?

haha yea, so i guess a lot of applicants are overhopeful
