rainman
Hi...I'm trying to decide on my three referees and so far I have decided on two: i) NSERC USRA PI and ii) One of my former guidance counsellors with whom I have a good relationship (she knows me well and we have kept in touch for the past 3 years). As for the third referee, I am contemplating going to a dentist I volunteered for/shadowed. I have known this dentist for a long time and I am confident he would write a good letter for me. The only concern I have is whether the admissions committee would question why I picked a dentist to recommend me for medicine. Although a dentist is a member of the healthcare community, do you see any problem with picking one as a referee? Any insight would be much appreciated. future_doc
No problem. His credibility and your character etc will be judged by what he writes. We pick referees who are credible, who know us best and who will write "strong" LORs. Better than a prof who hardly knows you and will write a wishy-washy LOR eh?
