street_med
Hey everyone, Hopefully this question hasn't been asked already...I was wondering if it's ok to include clinical selectives under the electives section of the CaRMS application. Isn't an elective basically any optional clinical training that a med student undertakes and if so, wouldn't selectives qualify? sm
blinknoodle
I would not include selectives. The selectives are your core curriculum, not to supplement it. You want to highlight your electives, not get them lost in the crowd (at UWO, if I do my math right, I had 10 weeks of selectives within clerkship plus 12 weeks of bone fide electives). I would include any pre-clerkship electives done in the summers though.
national
What about just including selectives that are relevant to the programs you're applying to? For example, applying to family medicine programs, and listing a rural family medicine selective you did in Nunavut. It just seems sensible to list selectives like this, which demonstrate commitment to a specific field.
Lactic Folly
I haven't heard of it (for us, they were listed individually along with the rest of our rotations and evaluation comments in the MSPR), but if you do, you should state it's a selective.. street_med
Thanks for the replies! I am not sure if our MSPRs list individual selectives (will confirm with dean's office) hence my reasoning for including them under electives. Don't think including this hurts my application, does it? sm
